morphine

Morphine is an extremely potent opiate analgesic psychoactive drug, and is often used in hospital settings as a very strong painkiller, though it is also often used recreationally for the euphoria it induces at high doses. Morphine has a high potential for addiction, comparable to that of heroin. Tolerance and both physical and psychological dependence develop rapidly. Withdrawal symptoms can be very severe, and withdrawal can complicate hepatitis C.
