Almost half of Kenya’s adult population drinks alcohol, and some drink too much, putting their children at risk. Voice of America’s Cathy Majtenyi describes a “family entertainment” spot in Nairobi where children play and parents drink nearby. Scenarios like these are disturbingly common in Kenya, says Jennifer Kimani, CEO of the government’s National Campaign Against Drug Abuse.

Linkin Park co-frontman Chester Bennington opened up about his long battle with drugs and alcohol in a new interview with Noisecreep, and admits that his experience with addiction influenced many of the songs on Out of Ashes, his upcoming album with his side project Dead by Sunrise.
Bennington told Noisecreep, “My life was falling apart in many ways that I was writing about on this record in terms of getting divorced, in terms of diving very hard into alcohol and drugs throughout this process.”
US Representative John Sullivan is returning to Congress after a month-long stay at the Betty Ford Clinic in California for alcohol addiction. He plans to seek another term in office.
The 44-year-old Oklahoma Republican told Tulsa World that his announcement in late May to seek treatment was not triggered by a single incident. He says he experienced “one of those moments of just clarity” that people struggling with addiction often have.

As Marlins pitcher Scott Proctor recovers from elbow ligament replacement, he’s also attempting to recover from alcoholism. Out for the season due to his elbow injury, Proctor told the New York Times and the New York Daily News that he is a recovering alcoholic and decided to quit drinking before his surgery. He has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for more than a month.

Alcohol addiction, also known as alcoholism, is a condition in which the impacted person drinks in a way that creates negative consequences for them or others.
Alcohol addiction does not necessarily mean you drink every day, or even that you get drunk every time you drink; however, there is a general feeling of loss of control, physical side effects such as black outs (not remembering blocks of time), hangovers, and in more serious cases gastrointestinal and liver problems.
